2018 Navajo Nation Visitor and Economic Impact Survey

June 13, 2024

The Navajo Nation Tourism Department (NNTD), in partnership with Arizona State University's Center for Sustainable Tourism, conducted the 2018 Navajo Nation Visitor and Economic Impact Survey. Funded by the Navajo Nation and the Arizona Office of Tourism, the survey aimed to evaluate tourism's impact, visitor satisfaction, population estimates, and economic contributions within the Arizona portion of the Nation. Over eight months, ASU surveyors intercepted visitors at 13 sites organized into three geographic clusters, using an eight-page questionnaire. The survey focused on visitor spending in Arizona and involved extensive travel by ASU staff, with site visits lasting between 3 to 8 hours.
